Black Poetry

Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 7 PM EDT
Please join the SDARJ on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. for our third annual Black Poetry Event
This third poetry presentation incorporates some previous poets as well as new poets that are characterized under Historical Poems and Black Life into two subcategories: Black Love and Black Pride. There will also be a part of the program devoted to Black Lives Matter poems. This presentation also differs from the previous events as YouTube videos of the poets reading their own selections have also been added to a degree along with live readings.
The program will feature poetry readings by local residents as well as videos of renowned poets reading their own selections. Headliners are 2021’s hottest new star Amanda Gorman, reading “The Hill We Climb,” and H.E.R., 2021 Grammy Award Winner for Song of the Year “I Can’t Breathe” as well as poems by Tupac Shakur, Common, Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, Gil Scott-Herron, Delaware’s Own Twin Poets, Ntozake Shange, and Delaware MLK Poetry contest winners Naomi Scott and Neha Das.
